We left La Herradura early and did a 65 mile hop to Aguadulce. A very nice and very cheap marina. The main thing to see here is a huge Moorish fortress, the largest in Europe. unfortunately it was closed that day. The town also has some interesting stuff.

We came here for an overnight stop but it was so nice we decieded to stay an extra day. The main beach is a bit highrise infested but up in the town is very pretty. On the way here and quite early in the morning we were visited by dolphins. Here is Amanda in full dolphin watching mode.
Today we took our new bikes for a ride along the promenade by the beach. The beach goes for miles and miles with restaurants and tourist shops all the way. We are enjoying our new bikes. They expand our area of exploration from about 2 miles to about 10 miles + from the boat. And to finish off here is a photo of the very busy marina we are currently parked in. We have just arrived at Benalmadena which is very near the famous Torremolinos. We left Gib and had an overnight stop anchored by Estepona.
This area caters for cheap package holidays from the UK so is full of places selling egg and chips and English beer. This was our first experience at Mediterranean mooring and with a strong crosswind it was a bit exciting, but no boats or crew were harmed in the making of this landfall. Here for a day or two then continuing east. Yesterday we did a tour of The Rock visting all the tourist spots. St Michaels Cave is a huge space where they have concerts in the summer.
An exciting landfall today. Gibraltar is an icon for yachties both as a destination in it's own right and also as a gateway to the Mediterranean. It's only about 10 miles accross to the coast of north Africa Amanda the navigator hard at work.
Today we took a trip up to Seville in the train. You can actually take a yacht there but it's 50 miles up a river. The train takes one and a half hours and goes 100 mile per hour.
Another impressive cite chocker block full of historic stuff. i now have a new favourite fish, fresh anchovies. they are about the size of you middle finger and you eat them whole. Amanda was less keen on this until we hit upon the arangement whereby I bite the head off, Amanda eats the middle bit and then I get the tail. Very yummy. Boat jobs tomorrow then we will look to sail on to the next place..... We are now in Barbate about 35 miles west of Gibraltar. We were only going to stay one night but they are having a weekend tuna (eating) festival, so we are leaving Sunday. Barbate is a nice seaside town with a great beach. Sitting at the beachside cafes you can look south and see northern Africa. Also about 5 miles up the coast is Cape Trafalgar where old Lord Nelson had his battle.
One of the problems of sailing in these waters is the profusion of sea monsters. We were sailing down from Cadiz to Barbate and all of a sudden a giant tenticle came over the side and grabbed my leg. the monster then started pulling me out of the boat, luckily Amanda grabbed the deck knife and chopped through the tenticle. there was an almighty roar from under the boat and the creature disapeared into the briny depths. On the bright side the severed tenticle made a very tasty dinner sautéed with garlic and rosemary.
