Aztec Gold has always been a fast yacht and in her final act for us she has maintained this record. We had an offer within a week of putting the boat on the market and the process has progressed from there. The sale is now complete and Aztec Gold has some new lucky owners.
We are a bit sad to be saying goodbye to AG but also excited to be starting to plan for our next adventure. So this is my blog on this site. Thanks again to everyone who followed our travels.

After six seasons of our amazing adventure we have decided to put Aztec Gold up for sale.
AG has been an awesome boat (that we bought on-line, sight unseen). She loves racing any boat that happens to be heading in the same general direction as her, and generally wins while at the same time being a safe, comfortable live aboard. We leave with so many great memories of our time in the Med. Both the places we visited and the people we have met along the way. Thanks to everyone who has followed this blog and especially everyone who took the time to send us a comment. We will let you know when we have decided upon our next adventure..... Birthday week is a great tradition that I highly recommend to all three readers of this blog. Getting only one special day a year is simply inadequate, a week is about right. Here we are engaging in one of the preeminent birthday week activities. A less common but equally enjoyable activity, sailing wing on wing. Especially as we sailed past another yacht trying to race us (or at least one heading in the same general direction).
Not long now until we come out of the water for another season. We are in a place called Nidri where people store their boats long term. Some like this one for too long. There are a dozen or so dead boats in the bay. It is also not a great place to swim with lots of very large jellyfish infesting the bay. Instead we went for a walk into the hills to a waterfall where you can swim in cool fresh water. It hasn't rained for 3 months however so the waterfall was a bit of a trickle.
Our visitors Sally and Dave have left us so it is just us on the boat now. August has finished and already places seem a little quieter. AG comes out of the water on the 10th so we only have a short time left. This week is Amanda's birthday week so she is the boss of everything. Amanda gets to decide where we go each day and what we do.
We have been slowly heading south with our visitors heading for Zakynthos. This photo was taken from a village up a very long, hot road from the sea. This is the very famous ship wreck cove on Zakynthos. A good example of a place overwhelmed by it's own popularity. Each day dozens of tripper boats unload many hundreds of people on to this little beach. It's like the D Day landing. We found a place just a nice down the coast a bit without all the crowds. There are hundreds of caves along the rocky cliffs to explore. I made a kayak paddle out of an old set of oars. It's great for exploring on the paddle board if it's a bit rough or windy. Yes I am very clever.
We now have Sally and Dave, friends from NZ staying with us for a week or so. We are showing them around the islands, visiting some quite anchorages and some town harbours. We are making our way south and will drop them off in Zakynthos.
It is with much sadness that I advise the loss of a valuable member of the Aztec Gold family. Big Balumba was a fender that we acquired in France in unusual circumstances near the start of our first season. So we have been through a lot together and BB has saved us from a few scrapes.
But yesterday in Astakos he disappeared and a search of the bay found no sign. We are very upset. On a brighter note our air conditioning worked fine once the shore power came back on so it seemed we were not responsible for blowing the fuse. We have come to Astakos, a little town on the mainland coast. We were lured here because they have free electricity and water on the town quay.
Unfortunately a few hours after we arrived the electricity stopped and stayed off all night, all along the quay. We suspect it's because some selfish morons tried to run their air conditioning and it overloaded the circuit. In our defence, we have had the AC unit since the start of the season and we have only been able to use it a couple of times so we were keen to give it a go. The power is back on this morning, so we will give the AC another crack tonight. |
