We are often asked this question from people who talk with us about our trip and it is a very difficult question to answer. The problem is we went to so many great places it is hard to choose. One answer I sometimes give is “the next place” because I generally enjoy the journey more than the destination. The excitement and uncertainty of heading off to new places, the possibilities just over the horizon. But to answer the question more directly here are a few places that stand out for one reason or another: Dartmouth UK Memorable because it was so unexpected. Dartmouth is located where the river Dart empties into the English Channel. After entering in through a narrow gap in the high rocky coast the river opens out to create the harbour. The pastel coloured houses tumble down the banks on each side. The weather was a bit pants when we were there so the photos don’t do it justice. A very pretty town. Ile d Yue (France) A small island off the Atlantic coast of France. We anchored in a beautiful sandy bay, explored the amazing scenery and had one of our best lunches out in a small local café. Santander (Spain) Our arrival point into Spain. A large neat and tidy city. Great beaches, interesting architecture, and good shopping. We got stuck here for 9 days waiting for the weather but it was a great place to get stuck. Cudillero (Spain) Free mooring in a great little fishing port overlooked by a picture postcard town perched on the surrounding hillsides. Muros (Spain) A great anchorage in a quite bay all to ourselves Porto (Portugal) They make Port there. Culatra, Faro Lagoon (Portugal) Lots of yachties, a nice social time. Great beaches and great weather. Guadinia River (Portugal/Spain)
The border between Portugal and Spain. You can sail up the river for many miles, some people never leave. Fun to pop across the river between Spain and Portugal to explore the pretty towns on either side.
