We are now island hopping through the Little Cyclades islands, so called because the islands are quite little. I think we will be in this area for a while. Amanda's new floaty toy. It is a floating hamock and is very comfortable. Good for hot calm days. A cute little harbour we visited at the bottom of Naxos. Mostly for fishing boats. Good except for the hundreds of flies. A very cool cave that we visited on the island of Koufonisi. We drove the dinghy right through. Typical anchorage

We have spent the last week or so on Paros island which has moved high on our list of favourites Exploring Naoussa at the top end of the island. The team colour that day was orange We have been for lots of big walks. On this one we ran out of roads so made our own path cross-country. We last visited Paros about 8 years ago and I got my hair cut by the local barber. He only uses scissors but goes so fast they look like clippers. I visited him again this trip This walk is following an ancient Byzantine road, dating from 300BC My first octopus using my new spear We visited a local festival which involved music, dancing and free food and drink The team colour that night was stripy The festival also involved jumping through fire and it would have been rude not to have a go.
We had a couple of days more in Mykonos than we planned as the weather was very windy. We finally got away and headed south to meet up with our Danish friends Vickie and Jacob. They were in Naxos. While we were stuck in Mykonos we hired a scooter for a day to explore a bit more of the island. In Naxos we hired a fun car with Vickie and Jacob This marble statue was being made in 800BC to go to Delos but someone mucked up the order A good arty photo by Amanda On our way up to the cave where Zues used to live. Naxos town through the square window.
Amanda and I lived and worked in Mykanos for one year when we were first married, about 25 years ago. Therefore visiting this island has special significance for us. We have spent our time visiting the places we knew and trying to find traces of old friends. Overlooking the main town. Mykanos is famous for its many windmills. Here because it is breezy much of the time. Churches also feature in the landscape. We visited the little village of Ano Mera where we used to live and after a bit of asking around managed to track down Maria. Maria is the niece of the family we were friends with. It was fun catching up and hearing all the news of the village.
The island of Delos was the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis and was a big deal a couple of hundred years BC. Today it is one of the premier archaeological sites of Greece. The ancient city covers a large area of the island. Also featured is a great closeup of Amanda's hat. Probably thr most photographed thing on the island, the Delos lions. There are a number of amazing mosaics to be seen. It is amazing to visit these places and imagine what life was like so many hundreds of years ago.
We had a couple of nights in Tinos harbour parked on the town quay. It was very windy and there are not many anchorages around. It was free and included water and power. Tinos harbour with the town behind We love the colourful local fishing boats The main church in Tinos is a significant pilgrimage site for the Greek Orthodox faith. It is customary for the pilrgims to crawl up to the church on their hands and knees. Carpet is provided. You can see it is a long way to crawl up from the harbour.
We came to Syros to buy a new cooling fan for the fridge. Ended up I got one on line. Ordered it Monday afternoon, it was dispatched from the UK the next day and got to us by Thursday via Germany and Athens, not bad. While waiting we spent our time exploring some local anchorages. Syros is the capital of the Cyclades group. Sometimes instead of sitting on our boat and looking at the beach we like to sit on the beach and look at our boat. A little town called Kini where we had the bay to ourselves Lots of walking tracks on the island From Syros we sailed up to Tinos Island. This is Panomos on the north side. Panomos in the evening. Today we sailed around to the main town of Tinos and parked in the harbour. Photos next time.
