The boatyard where AG will rest for the winter is at the enterance to the Gulf of Ambracia and as we had a few days to spare we went in and explored a bit. The Gulf was the sight of the big battle in 31 BC where Augustus defeated Mark Anthony and Cleopatra (hence the name of our boatyard). There are a number of ancient ruins dotted about (including some on boats who seem to have taken up semi-permanent residance).

We have spent our last few days afloat in the company our our Danish friends Vickie and Jacob on their yacht Conquistador. We first met them in Spain last year so it was great catching up again. We have had quite a social time, it's cool hanging out with younger people like us (after our other young friends Jim and Deb left us). They are heading south to Crete to live on board for the winter. For my good friend Dorothy and everyone else who likes cats, which apparently is everyone who uses the internet.
Once again I have experienced just how tricky it is to photograph cats, they are not the most cooperative of animals. After 10 days of buddy boating Jim and Deb have sailed away. We have had a great time with them, visited some beautiful anchorages and had (as you do on a boat) a couple of little emergencies to deal with. Needless to say I don't think Jim will be tying up to the land Med mooring style again in a hurry.
We have caught up again with our good friends Jim and Deb on their yacht Morpheus. We will sail with them for the next few weeks. We plan to go down to Zakinthos which in the southern most island in the Ionian group. So we will see some new places before our season ends.
We are not doing much at the moment and so mostly just to let you know that we are still alive here are a few photos.... We are meeting up with our good friends Jim and Deb on yacht Morpheus in a day or two, looking forward to that.
As I'm sure you will know the situation in Turkey is not good at the moment. One outcome of this is that the very many yachts that normally winter over in Turkey are now moving over to Greece and filling up the yards around Athens. This has meant that the yards we were looking at staying in are now all full. The fact that we were a bit late in paying our yard deposit must be admitted as also being a contributing factor.
Therefore we have booked ourselves back into the same yard we were last year and we come out of the water 30 August. This will give us a couple of weeks to do some boat jobs before we head home. So now only about 3 weeks left afloat!! |
