We saved a few new places for our last few days afloat and they turned out to be very nice. Still making new friends And visiting nice anchorages. This is the castle at Nafplion. There aee 901 steps to get up to it. Obviously to make any invaders too knackered to fight once they got there. The view from the top And from inside the castle For something even older this cave was home to pre-historic people from really ages ago. This is in the bay where our boat storage yard is. And then we finish. Here we are freshly out of the water and heading for our winter storage.
We are now flat out getting the boat sorted for winter storage. We fly out early next week.

This season I have been quite sucessful at catching octopus (more sucessful than my good friend Jacob) and the word has gone out in the octopus community. I think my mistake was going back to the same bay where I cought two octopus last time (yes Jacob two in one day) because this time they were waiting for me.
One minute I was swimming along and the next minute it was like that scene from The Matrix where the multi-armed killer robots are attacking the people in their underground hideout. Luckily Amanda noticed the commotion under the water and within moments had dived down armed with a can of fly spray. It it a little known fact that flies and octopus are closely related genetically and so the spray soon send the octopus into retreat. Cleverly Amanda grabbed me as she released the spray and its force jet propelled us away and to safety. When we got back to the boat there was still one octopus clinging to me and Amanda managed to take a couple of photos to prove beyond any doubt that every word of this story is completely true. Thanks Amanda, you're my hero. It is our tradition that in the week of your birthday you get to be totally in charge and do whatever you like. This is how Amanda has spent her birthday week so far.... I shouted Amanda a night at a flash hotel. Actually it was a real bargin. Serifos, the island we are on, had a big mining industry, now it is all abandoned and left to rust away. The 'hotel' in the previous photo is actually the old abandoned mining HQ. This is the bay where we spent Amanda's birthday day. We managed to find a little taverna by following a road that is a dry river bed going up into the hills. No effort spared for birthday dinner. Just to make sure we went out again when we went to the main harbour of the island. The main harbour looking down from the town. We leave here in the morning, still 2 days of birthday week to go.....
And friendly locals All in warm clear water. August was a pretty windy month but come the 1st of September the wind has stopped. So we have taken the opportunity to go back out to the Cyclades for our last few weeks, here's why..... Great anchorages Beautiful scenery
